HESPERIA – A 21-year-old Hesperia man was killed in a rollover crash on Third Avenue on Thursday night authorities said. At around 7:56 p.m. deputies from the Hesperia Station and emergency medical personnel responded to the area of Third between Sultana Street and Olive Street in the City of Hesperia.
While en route they learned that there was a single-vehicle rollover crash and the driver was unresponsive. Witnesses told deputies that the 1996 Honda Accord was driving at a high rate of speed northbound on Third Avenue when the driver lost control just past Sultana Street. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned multiple times before coming to a rest in the vegetation east of the roadway shoulder.
The driver, Vince Muldoon, of Hesperia was ejected from the vehicle and sustained major injuries. Muldoon was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash. Despite life-saving efforts, Muldoon died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct the investigation.
A hard road closure was set in place until 1:00 a.m. on Third Avenue from Olive Street to Sultana Avenue. Witnesses were interviewed and the scene was processed. Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved. Anyone with information related to this investigation should contact the Hesperia Station, Deputy Getts at (760)947-1500.
