HIGHLAND – A Highland couple is behind bars for suspected abuse of their infant son authorities said.
On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, Robert Martin Bellet III, 30, and Annelese Rose Ortega, 28 took their 2-month-old son to Loma Linda University Medical Center for a partially severed ear. The infant’s ear was treated with stitches, but the suspicious nature of the injury led to the request of a Forensic Examination. The Forensic Pediatricians examined the small child and found multiple rib fractures , a skull fracture and several other injuries consistent with child abuse.
The findings led to the arrest of Bellet and Ortega the following day. Both were booked into the Central Detention Center for Willful Cruelty to a Child and Inflicting Great Bodily Injury to a Child under 5. Both are being held in lieu of $250,000.
