HINKLEY – A Hinkley couple was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after two juveniles were found to be severely abused by the couple. The deputies arrived at the home on the 35000 block of Riverview Lane as part of a Child Family Services (CFS) follow up and what they found was alarming.
The two 17-year old boys were determined to be whipped with a 5-foot long horse whip and the second of the two teens was kept locked in a cage for around a month from June to July. Supporting evidence was found including scarring to one of the victim’s arms and legs. Also, they located a 4 foot by 4-foot steel cage with padlocks and a horsewhip. “A baby monitor pointed directly toward the cage to alert the couple if there was movement inside,” Sheriff’s officials said in the release.
The victim was forced to use a bucket as a restroom and was only let out for meals. A total of three 17-year-old juveniles were removed from the home, the two males and one female. It is unknown if the female was also abused. Lynferd Schwartz, 51 and Carrie Schwartz, 49 were arrested and booked into the Barstow Jail. Both were released on bail on Thursday and have no court appearances scheduled at this time.
