Investigators Seeking Information About Moreno Valley Murder-Suicide

MORENO VALLEY – Homicide investigators are seeking additional information regarding a June 24, 2016, murder-suicide in Moreno Valley. At around 9:53 p.m. that night, the Moreno Valley police responded to a residence on the 13200 block of Wichita Way in response to the report of a suicide threat.

When they arrived they located two adults inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds. Renee Dollene Mackenzie, 47 from Lake Elsinore was dead on arrival while her boyfriend Joseph Anthony Mendez, 53 of Moreno Valley was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The Moreno Valley Police Department investigators and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit investigated determining that Mendez was the assailant responsible for the murder-suicide. Days later, on June 29, 2016, Mendez died as a result of his injuries.
