Kansas Man, 51, Charged with Impregnating 10-year-old Girl

OVERLAND PARK, KS. – A Kansas man was arrested after authorities learned from a midwife that he had got a 10-year-old girl pregnant.

The 51-year-old man identified as Ronald Dejohnette Jr. was charged with rape, aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties. The girl was around 7-years-old according to the affidavit. The affidavit also showed that Dejohnette, the girl’s mother and the girl discussed the arrangement where he would begin having sex with the small child. The arrangement included the child sleeping with Dejohnette some nights, while the mother slept with him on other nights.

When the child began to gain enough weight for her pregnancy to be noticable she was no longer able to go out in public. A midwife made a home visit to the home of the pregnant child when she was 26 weeks pregnant, initially unaware of her age. The February visit alarmed the midwife when she learned that the girl had not had any prenatal care and even more so, when she learned that the child was only 10 years old.

After leaving the home the midwife called the police to report what she had learned. Police made contact with Dejohnette, who lived in the home with the child and her mother. During an interview police said that he claimed that the father was another 10-year-old child who went to school with the child. The girl’s original story indicated that she was not aware of who the father was and that the baby was a product of rape. She later changed her story and said she had attempted to protect Dejohnette from going to jail by saying that she had been raped by an unknown subject.
