COSTA MESA – A Las Vegas man was arrested after a homeless Orange County man was found unconscious and bleeding from his ears and nose on Thursday evening.
At around 7:10 p.m. officers were dispatched to a motel in the 3200 block of Harbor Boulevard for the report that 53-year-old homeless man was lying on the ground injured. Officers from the Costa Mesa Police Department and emergency medical personnel from the Costa Mesa Fire and Rescue responded to find the man suffering from serious head trauma.
“Initial investigation and video surveillance led officers to identify William Kent Shelfer, 35, Las Vegas, as the suspect,” Costa Mesa Police officials said. “Shelfer was subsequently located nearby in a stolen motorhome and arrested that night.” Shelfer was booked into jail for felony battery causing serious bodily injury and auto theft. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
