VICTORVILLE – A 40-year-old Caltrans project worker was struck by a train on D Street near 6th Street in the City of Victorville Wednesday morning.
At around 6:35 am emergency medical personnel was dispatched to the scene where the male was reported to be awake and breathing. The man, according to BNSF officials, was working on a lift machine when the machine malfunctioned while crossing the tracks. The machine became stuck on the tracks, causing it to be struck by a westbound traveling train. The impact of the train tossed the man from the machine.
Although conscious, the victim sustained major head injuries and an air ambulance was requested. He was transported to Victor Valley Global Medical Center in preparation to be airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital for the treatment of his injuries. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the incident.
Victorville Sheriff’s station Mara Rodriguez said that Victorville Station deputies responded to the scene initially, but was turned over to BNSF for further investigation.
