APPLE VALLEY – A man lost his life following a hit-and-run vehicle versus pedestrian collision Friday evening. The report of a man down on Highway 18 near was called into Sheriff’s Dispatch at approximately 7:23 p.m. When Sheriff’s officials and medical personnel arrived the 50-60-year-old white male adult was determined to be deceased at the scene.
With no vehicle stopped in sight, sheriff’s officials determined the vehicle fled the scene following the collision. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Laura Marks told a reporter with JKIX video that the man suffered from major head trauma as a result of the collision. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said that Highway 18 was shut down from Kiowa to Flathead Roads for the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).\
Although the man is identified, the information is not being released to the public at this time. The driver of the vehicle is yet to be identified. Anyone who may have witnessed or has any information about this traffic collision should contact Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
