DEEP CREEK – A 55-year-old Maryland man was rescued from Deep Creek Hot Springs after he fell ill on Thursday night. Just before 9:20 p.m. 40 King 3, the Sheriff’s helicopter responded to the area of Deep Creek for an area check of a hiker with a medical emergency. The hiker, identified as Scott Erickson was learned to have a diabetic emergency.
The helicopter was landed and a deputy hiked down to make contact with the ill hiker. In order to quickly get Erickson out of the area to medical care a hoist rescue was performed. The deputy placed the rescue harness on Erickson, a cable was lowered down around 90 feet from the helicopter to the deputy and Erickson. Both were hoisted into the helicopter. Erickson was flown to an ambulance waiting for his arrival at Bowen Ranch,
