DEEP CREEK – A 55-year-old Maryland man was rescued from Deep Creek Hot Springs after he fell ill on Thursday night. Just before 9:20 p.m. 40 King 3, the Sheriff’s helicopter responded to the area of Deep Creek for an area check of a hiker with a medical emergency. The hiker, identified as Scott Erickson was learned to have a diabetic emergency.
The helicopter was landed and a deputy hiked down to make contact with the ill hiker. In order to quickly get Erickson out of the area to medical care a hoist rescue was performed. The deputy placed the rescue harness on Erickson, a cable was lowered down around 90 feet from the helicopter to the deputy and Erickson. Both were hoisted into the helicopter.
