A 25-year-old man lost his life after his vehicle overturned down a dirt embankment off of the westbound on the I-40 early Monday morning.
At 5:03 a.m. the Barstow CHP received a wireless 911 call reporting the single vehicle collision. CHP officers located the vehicle on it’s roof on the left-side shoulder dirt embankment.
CHP officials said that the driver was in the #1 lane approaching Crucero Road when for reasons still under investigation, the driver, later identified as Cypress resident, Cody Brown allowed for his vehicle to veer left across lanes.
His vehicle went onto the descending dirt embankment, causing the Ford to rotate clockwise and overturn. The vehicle can to a stop on it’s roof. Brown was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and was ejected from the vehicle, causing fatal injuries.
Brown had two passengers who were able to self-extricate but did sustain minor injuries. The passengers declined medical transport.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor at this time, the collision remains under investigation by the Barstow Highway Patrol.
