VICTORVILLE – A 45-year-old Anaheim man lost his life after the box-truck that he was driving collided with a Caltrans freeway sign on the southbound I-15, just north of Nisqualli Road on Sunday morning.
On Sunday, May 14, 2017, officers and emergency medical personnel responded to a 911 call reporting a major single-vehicle traffic collision. When California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers and medical personnel arrived, they found Kevin Bussey had been ejected from the vehicle. Bussey was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at 8:45 a.m. A 46-year-old male passenger was transported to Liberty Park in preparation to be airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for the treatment of serious injuries.
CHP officials said that Bussey was not restrained by a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The cause of the collision is yet to be determined by CHP officials. The family of Bussey believes that he fell asleep while driving the box truck back from Las Vegas Nevada, where he was moving a family causing his truck swerve out of lanes and crash. A member of his family started a Go Fund Me Account account to help with the cost of a memorial and proper burial for Bussey.
“As with any sudden and unexpected death, the family has is not financially prepared to give Kevin a burial and service that he deserves,” said family member Kristen Murphy on the Go Fund Me account. “Kevin was a joyful man who made everyone he came into contact with laugh. He made friends or knew someone everywhere he went. He was the epitome of contagious joy and laughter.”
