VICTORVILLE, Ca. – Criminal acts in Victorville led to a man, woman, and baby dead on Monday night.
Authorities said that on Monday, May 18, 2020, at around 8:41 p.m. 43-year-old Tulsa, Oklahoma resident, Calvin Pittman and a still, unidentified black woman walked into a Motel 6 room and while robbing the occupants , left one man dead. Police say that his death was the result of a brutal beating. The two left the motel, located at 16901 Stoddard Wells Road in the victim’s rental vehicle. Deputies responded to reports of a fight at the motel and found the victims, a 56-year-old Temecula man, where despite lifesaving measures he was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Apple Valley, California.
Through investigation it was determined that the suspects did not know the victims. They randomly entered the room and assaulted and robbed them, authorities said. Detectives searched for the assailants throughout the night to no avail.
On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at around 5:41 a.m., an off-duty CHP officer located the woman and deceased infant in the road of the 15 freeway north, south of Cima Road. “It appears the female and the infant may have been trying to cross the freeway and were struck by a passing vehicle and the involved driver did not stop. While on scene, CHP officers located the murder victims stolen rental vehicle in a nearby ditch,” San Bernardino County Sher’ff officials said in the news release.
CHP received a call reporting a man walking on the southbound 1-15, around a mile south of the accident scene. The man was identified by CHP officers as Calvin Pitman. Pittman was detained, questioned, and subsequently booked into jail for murder.
The Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to investigate the fatal hit and run collision. MAIT investigators believe the vehicle involved in the fatal hit and run was a semi-truck and may have been unaware of what they struck in the roadway.
