MENIFEE, Calif. – The sudden death of a 5-week-old baby girl led to the arrest of her mother and father authorities said.
On Saturday, January 26, 2019, Kailani Alexandria Brandt was transported to the hospital by her parents from their home in the 28000 block of Avenida Marbella in Menifee. Despite attempts to resuscitate the newborn, she was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Evidence surfaced that led Menifee investigators to believe that foul play was involved in Kailani’s death.
Central Homicide assumed the investigation leading to the arrest of Kailani’s biological father, 33-year-old Gregory Brandt. Brandt was arrested for the murder of his 5-week-old daughter. He was booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
The biological mother, Jasmine Rugga, 27, was arrested for child endangerment. She is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
