INDIO – An Indio Police Department (IPD) Patrol Motorcycle was struck by a SUV leaving the officer with major injuries and the other driver behind bars on Sunday.
At around 3:30 p.m. the on-duty IPD officer was riding the 2007 Honda motorcycle southbound on Jackson Street, north of Odum Drive. Margaret Kendric, a 53-year-old Orange, California woman was driving a 2013 Nissan Murano northbound on Jackson Street at Odum Drive. She began making a left turn to westbound Odum Drive directly in the path of the Patrol Motorcycle.
The left front of the Nissan struck the left side of the Honda, causing major damage to both vehicles and causing the IPD officer to be ejected from the motorcycle. The IPD Sergeant sustained major, but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. Kendric was uninjured, and was placed under arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. She was subsequently booed into the Riverside County Jail in Indio.
The collision remains under investigation, anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call Officer Diaz at (760)772-8911.
