FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Fairfield Police detectives are investigating two newborns found behind a business on Tuesday.
At around 4:11 p.m. officers responded to the 300 block of Pittman Road for the report of a woman behind the business. The employee told dispatchers that two infants were there and appeared to have just been born on the sidewalk behind the business. When officers arrived they located the two newborns but not the mother. The officer found one infant to be unresponsive and attempted lifesaving efforts on the baby but turned over the care to fire department personnel.
One of the newborns was pronounced dead at the scene, but the other was transported to the hospital in stable condition. A female believed to be the mother of the newborns was reported to still be in the area. After searching the nearby area a woman believed to be the mother was found on Central Place. It appeared as though the woman had just given birth, according to the news release. She was transported to the hospital for treatment and has been detained.
No other information has been released at this time.
