MORENO VALLEY – A man was shot and killed as a result of an officer involved shooting in Moreno Valley on Saturday evening. At around 6:30 p.m., officers from the Moreno Valley Police Department responded to the report of a family disturbance in the 12-600 block of Memorial Way. The caller stated that the man was armed with a handgun and was threatening family members.
Officers arrived, located the involved parties and attempted to make contact with the male subject. It is unclear exactly what led up to the shooting, but moments later one or more officers opened fire shooting the suspect. The officers rushed to the aid of the suspect, providing life-saving efforts. Medical aid was called to the scene and arrived within minutes. The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
The suspect’s name is not being released at this time. “The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave per department policy,” officials said in the news release. “The involved officers’ names will not be released at this time. No officers or citizens were injured during the incident.”
Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation.
