RANCHO CUCAMONGA – Chaffey College Police Department officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning. At around 6:40 a.m. officers attempted to make contact with Jullian Burdwell, 34, of Ontario in the northwest parking lot of the Chaffey College Rancho Cucamonga campus. The college police officer approached the parked vehicle that Burdwell was sitting inside of and the situation escalated to an officer involved shooting. Although shots were fired from the officer’s service weapon, Burdwell was not shot.
Burdwell drove from the scene and officers followed pursuing the vehicle which left the campus driving through several nearby streets, then re entering the campus. Several Chaffey College employees were walking in the area, and officers believed that Burdwell was driving in their direction. For the safety of the employees, the officer conducted an effective legal intervention maneuver, which disabled Burdwell’s vehicle. Burdwell was then taken into custody without incident. Rancho Cucamonga Police arrived to assist.
Burdwell was transported to the hospital as a precaution and was later booked into the West Valley Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and felony Evasion and Obstructing an Officer. She is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The Rancho Cucamonga Police Department will be conducting the investigation into the officer involved shooting.
