HESPERIA – A male pedestrian suffered major injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday night. At around 8:25 p.m. dispatchers were alerted to the vehicle versus pedestrian collision on I Avenue near Yucca Street. When deputies arrived they located the pedestrian breathing but unresponsive and bleeding profusely from his face. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene on the east shoulder facing north.
Emergency personnel rendered aid at the scene for the severely injured pedestrian. Due to the severity of his injuries, Mercy Air was requested to transport him but due to weather he was transported by ground to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
The San Bernardino County Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I. T.) responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and the driver immediately stopped.
I Avenue was closed from Main Street to Smoke Tree from 8:30 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. for the investigation. Anyone with information about the collision should contact Deputies Brian LoVasco or Derek Zane at (760) 947-1500.
