RIALTO – A couple pleaded no contest to a November 2015 false carjacking report to the Rialto Police. The couple, 62-year-old Rigoberto Bugarin and 59-year-old Maria Bugarin, both of Rialto reported that they were victims of a carjacking.
The couple reported the carjacking to Farmer’s insurance and obtained a $30,000 insurance payout. The couple’s vehicle was later recovered in Mexico. Through investigation, authorities learned that the Bugarin’s vehicle was in Mexico at the time of the report.
The Auto Insurance Fraud Unit from the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office filed a felony complaint against the Bugarin’s in July 2016. Sentencing is scheduled for March 16, 2017, at the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court.
