Riverside Man Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle on California Avenue

RIVERSIDE – A 24-year-old Riverside man lost his life after being struck by a vehicle in the City of Riverside on Sunday night. At around 9:15 p.m. A 2016 Kia Sorento, driving by a young Riverside man was driving east on California Avenue in the #1 lane of traffic.

William Bloomfield left the curb on the north side of California Avenue and began walking south across the lanes of traffic on California near Heidi Road and Wayne Court. The driver of the Kia said that he saw the vehicle and attempted to move into the #2 lane, but there was not sufficient time to avoid striking the victim. The driver, who was in his early 20’s stopped his vehicle and called the police.

Bloomfield was found suffering from major injuries and was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 11:00 p.m.

Officers from the Riverside Police Department’s M.A.I.T. were called to the scene and are investigating. The name of the decedent will be released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office pending their investigation and notification of next of kin.
