RIVERSIDE – Riverside police along with many others use a License Plate Reader (LPR), which uses helps to identify a vehicle by their license plates. This technology has been proven effective in locating stolen vehicles as well as wanted suspects.
On August 4, 2016, at 1:45 a.m. officers from the Riverside Police department received a stolen vehicle alert. The vehicle was located near 7th Street and Ottawa Avenue within minutes. The vehicle was stopped and the two occupants were detained.
The driver, 33-year-old Riverside resident, Tony Gutierrez was found to be on probation for auto theft. Both Gutierrez and his passenger were in possession of shaved keys. Gutierrez was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle and a probation violation. His passenger was given a citation for the possession of burglary tools.
