CHINO HILLS – A 53-year-old Chino Hills man lost his life as a result of a traffic collision on Saturday. At around 2:07 a.m. deputies from the Chino Hills Station and emergency medical personnel responded to Chino Hills Parkway and the northbound SR-71 onramp in response to a traffic collision.
Authorities said that Thomas Contreras, 63, of Chino Hills was driving a black 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe west on Chino Hills Parkway. The Tahoe was occupied by Contreras and two other passengers. When he went through the Ramona Avenue intersection he crossed the double yellow line continuing westbound onto the concrete center median.
The vehicle continued west on the median for 230 feet until the front of the vehicle collided into a traffic pole. Sheriff’s officials said that there were no signs of braking in the median area. The front passenger, a Chino Hills man whose name has not yet been released died at the scene of the collision. Contreras and the rear passenger were transported for non-life-threatening injuries.
