UPDATE: *Correction- Per California Department of Parks and Recreation the male swimmer went missing on the afternoon of Saturday, August 20, 2016.
Park officials said that three people went out on the lake in a boat, the boat began to drift away causing the three to swim toward it. The one male swimmer never made it back, lifeguards attempted to locate the man and called the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Dive Team.
SILVERWOOD LAKE – Just one day after reopening following the Pilot Fire closure, the San Bernardino County Dive team is searching for a drowning victim in the deep Silverwood Lake water. The drowning occurred sometime before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2016.
Details are still limited, and the Dive team does not even have clear information as to where the victim was last seen, officials said. Sheriff’s Spokeswoman, Jodi Miller said that the Dive Team is assisting Silverwood Parks personnel and that she has no additional information to offer at this time.
It is unclear if this is being classified as a search and rescue or a recovery effort at this time. As of early Sunday evening, the victim was not located, information will be updated when it becomes available.
