HELENDALE – Two people sustained major injuries after a single-vehicle traffic collision on Friday night. Just after 9:00 p.m. the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a report indicating that a vehicle overturned on National Trails Highway just south of Vista Street. When CHP units and emergency medical personnel arrived they located two unresponsive subjects; one ejected from the vehicle and the second trapped inside the vehicle.

The trapped individual required extrication, while the second subject was located in the roadway suffering from major injuries. Two air ambulances were requested, but one was later canceled due to the delay in arrival time. The ejected person was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital and the second was transported by ground ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.

The same vehicle was reported to be driving recklessly just prior to the collision. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Alcohol, drugs, and/or speed have not been ruled out as a factor at this time.
