UPDATE: According to Caltrans District 8 (Inland Empire) the southbound lanes were opened at Cima Road at around 10:45 a.m. Northbound lanes of the I-15 are reopened as of 1:00 p.m.
BAKER – The Barstow area California Highway Patrol (CHP) were involved in the pursuit of a speeding vehicle on the 15 freeway north in the Baker area.
The initial stop was initiated at 2:18 a.m. due to the speed the vehicle was traveling. The CHP officers followed and the suspect vehicle and during the pursuit at least one suspect shot at pursuing officers. The suspect vehicle became disabled in the median of the I-15 near Halloran Summit Road.
The suspects as of 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning have not been located. The vehicle was cleared of suspects and an area search is being conducted at this time. The area search is being done by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and the CHP. Authorities do not know how many suspects are involved at this time.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of the 15 freeway in the area have been closed and motorists are advised to use their GPS to detour around the scene. CHP officials also advise motorists traveling the area to have a full tank of fuel, food, and water. They also advise motorists to remain on paved roads.
