TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. – Three carjacking suspects from Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley were arrested after stealing a vehicle from two people who offered to give them a ride to the store.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at around 11:38 p.m., Megan Green, 27, and David Warren, 29, both of Washington, flagged down deputies in the 7400 block of Twentynine Palms Highway in Twentynine Palms. The victims told deputies that they had met the suspects at a local motel. The suspects asked the victims for a ride to a convenience store and the victims agreed to.
The suspects gave the suspects directions to a desert area near Baseline and Adobe Roads. The victims were ordered out of the vehicle, but the male victim refused. The suspects pistol whipped him and then left the victims. Deputies searched for the suspects, but were not able to locate them. The suspects were located and stopped by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers in the early morning of April 4, 2019.
Austin Byrnes, 20, of Twentynine Palms, was arrested and booked into the Imperial County jail for possession of a stolen vehicle. Through investigation, Daniel Wineteer, 18, of Yucca Valley, and Damian Reese, 30, of Twentynine Palms, were positively identified as the other (2) suspects. On April 5, 2019, warrants were issued for the arrest of Byrnes, Wineteer and Reese. On April 6, 2019, Deputies Stumbo and Roche of the Morongo Basin station located and arrested Wineteer and Reese for their warrants. Byrnes will be transferred to San Bernardino County later.
