HESPERIA – Hesperia station deputies responded to a call reporting a victim with a slashed throat inside a motorhome in the Walmart parking lot located at 13401 Main Street on Saturday afternoon.
Deputies arrived at the store just after the 1:50 p.m. 911 call and located the blood-covered male suspect. Store patrons at the scene; some witnessing the tense situation unfold from only feet away, said that the officer yelled several times for the suspect to drop a knife. The deputy was able to take the suspect, who was described to be suffering from multiple lacerations, into custody shortly after. The store was temporarily evacuated and closed but was reopened at approximately 5:00 p.m.
The male victim was located, and according to emergency personnel at the scene was uncooperative and attempting to pull himself off the gurney. The victim told authorities that his 8-year-old grandson, who was also in the motorhome, ran into the store. The child was located and will be placed in the custody of Children and Family Services.
The victim was subsequently airlifted for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jodi Miller. Medical aid was also requested for a deputy at the scene who sustained minor injuries while taking the suspect into custody. The deputy was transported to a local hospital to be treated for the injuries sustained.
At this time the severity of the suspect’s injuries is unknown. The incident remains under investigation, and Sheriff officials are not releasing any additional information at this time.
