VICTORVILLE – Described as a happy, giving, and loving man, 29-year-old Victorville Charles Staples lost his life just days following a Victorville vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision.
According to authorities, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at approximately 10:15 a.m. Staples was on foot walking with a bicycle crossing Highway 395 at Dos Palmas when he was struck by a 2004 Cadillac sedan.
Upon arrival of emergency medical personnel, Staples was located unconscious and suffering from major injuries. Staples was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he remained unconscious.
His family kept him on life support until Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 12:40 p.m. so that his organs could be donated, as he had wished.
“My heart aches to see this guy’s smile and knowing I won’t see it again for a while,” said Haley Dawn Viglione on a Charles Staples Facebook Memorial page. “He is in a much better place now free from his pains and limitations of this life. I will never forget this smile and his upbeat attitude.”
The collision remains under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department – Major Accident Investigation Team.
