COACHELLA – No children were injured in a school bus crash that left three others injured CHP officials said. On Friday morning at around 7:45 a.m. the school bus carrying three students, an adult passenger and the 34-year-old female driver was driving southbound on Calhoun Street. A 29-year-old man was driving a 2009 Infiniti G37 northbound on Calhoun Street north of 48th Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into southbound lanes. The front of the infinity struck the front of the school bus causing the school bus to overturn.
The driver of the Infiniti and the driver of the school bus both sustained major injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to Desert Regional Medical Center. The adult passenger in the bus sustained minor injuries and none of the children, who were all in seatbelts at the time of the crash were injured. CHP officials are still investigating the crash and it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision at this time. The driver of the Infiniti, who reportedly was speeding and passing multiple vehicles was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Calhoun Street is closed between 48th and 50th Avenue for an unknown duration of time for the investigation.
