BARSTOW – Two Barstow men were arrested for an armed robbery at the Circle K, located in the 500 block of Rimrock Road in the City of Barstow on Thursday.
At around 4:12 a.m. police were dispatched to the store after receiving information that an armed robbery had just occurred. When police arrived they learned that the suspects were two black men who were wearing masks. The store clerk also shared that one was in possession of a small silver handgun and he was also able to provide a detailed clothing description of the suspects. The suspects then fled the store in a silver vehicle heading northbound on Barstow Road.
As officers were en route, they saw a silver Hyundai Elantra, which matched the suspect vehicle description traveling northbound on Barstow Road. The vehicle stopped at the intersection of Barstow Road and East Virginia Way. They were able to determine that the vehicle was occupied by two males. The officers turned the vehicle around to make contact with the occupants, but as they were turning, the passengers got out of the vehicle and fled on foot eastbound on Virginia Way. The male subject who exited the vehicle to flee on foot matched one of the two armed robbery suspects. An officer pursued the subject on foot.
The officers saw that the passenger matched the description of the suspect in the armed robbery and pursued the subject, later identified as Davontae Cole, 23, of Barstow. After a brief area search, Cole was found hiding behind the Cora Harper Community Center on Barstow Road. He was found in possession of stolen property and was taken into custody for robbery.
While the foot pursuit took place, the driver fled in the vehicle at a high rate of speed continuing northbound on Barstow Road. Officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but he continued on at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hours down Barstow Road. “As the driver approached Main Street, he attempted to negotiate a left hand turn but lost control of the vehicle and collided into the front of Roy’s Café, located at 410 Barstow Road,” Barstow Police officials said. “The driver exited the vehicle and officers placed him under arrest.” Jayshawn Mims, 24, of Barstow was taken into custody for armed robbery and felony evading. Stolen property was located inside the vehicle. Mims sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision
