VICTORVILLE – A 22-year-old Victorville man was arrested for driving under the influence after rear-ending a vehicle causing injuries to the driver of the vehicle and his passenger on Wednesday. At around 12:45 a.m. deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the 2-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 395 and Palmdale Road.
When they arrived they found the 2000 Honda Civic and a Nissan Pathfinder. Through investigation, they determined that the 35-year-old Adelanto woman driving the Pathfinder was stopped in the northbound lane on Highway 395 as directed to by road construction workers. Eduardo Pitones was driving the Honda northbound with his 22-year old female passenger when he hit the Pathfinder from behind.
Deputies determined that Pitones was under the influence of over twice the legal limit of alcohol at the time of the collision. The two women were transported to the hospital; the driver of the Nissan to a local hospital and Pitones’ female passenger by ground to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The extent of the injuries are undisclosed at this time.
Pitones was uninjured and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for driving under the influence causing injury and for driving on a suspended license. He is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Thursday afternoon for an arraignment hearing.
Pitones had a previous infraction in February 2015 for driving with a suspended license and speeding. He again was caught driving on a suspended license on March 25, 2016, but he failed to appear in court according to court records.
