HESPERIA – Two were injured after a vehicle slammed into them and attempted to flee the scene on Saturday afternoon.
At around 3:37 p.m. Hesperia Station Deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the area of Joshua Street and CA-395 for the report of a hit and run traffic collision.
Antony Joseph Woods, 22, of Victorville was driving a silver Nissan Maxima north on CA-395 in the #1 lane behind a maroon colored Honda CRV. According to sheriff’s officials, Woods fell asleep and collided into the back of the CRV, causing it to overturn onto its roof. “Woods continued north on US Highway 395, then west on Three Flags before his vehicle became disabled,” said Deputy Adam Cervantes. Per scanner traffic deputies made contact with Woods as he was attempting to push his vehicle.
Both the driver and the passenger in the CRV were injured, the driver with a laceration to his left hand and the passenger lacerations to his left hand and to the right side of his head. The two injured parties were treated at the scene and declined to be transported to the hospital. Woods was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Hit and Run with Injuries.
In the past two years, Woods has had a lengthy history of driving infractions and a misdemeanor, including one for speeding over 100 miles per hour, unsafe lane changes and numerous for lack of insurance and registration. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
