SAN ANTONIO HEIGHTS – A 66-year-old Upland man flying a single-engine Piper Cherokee from Cable Airport en route to Riverside crashed near San Antonio Heights on Tuesday.
At around 4:50 a.m. deputies from the Fontana station responded to an area check just north of San Antonio Heights when a caller reported concern when he was unable to make contact with the pilot, Stephen Lassetter. Deputies from the LA Sheriff’s Department air unit arrived to assist with the area check, where the located a plane crashed into the hillside. When deputies hiked to crash site they located Lassetter dead at the scene.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Aviation responded to assume the investigation being that the crash site was learned to be within the County of San Bernardino. The cause of the crash is unknown at this time, the investigation is ongoing.
