VICTORVILLE – A Victorville traffic stop led to the arrest of a Fort Mohave, Arizona and Victorville man authorities said.
At around 8:46 p.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018, deputies from the Victorville station stopped a 2006 Cadillac that failed to stop at a red light near Palmdale Road and the 15 freeway. After the vehicle stopped, the deputy made contact with the occupants in the vehicle. David Rwengo, a 31-year-old Arizona man was driving the vehicle, Rajesh Charan, 28, of Victorville, and a juvenile were passengers in the vehicle. The deputy noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, then noticed an open container with marijuana inside.
The finding resulted in a search of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle deputies found ammunition, and three firearms; one inside the juvenile’s diaper bag. Both of the adult occupants inside the vehicle are convicted felons and are prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
Rwengo and Charan were arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center. Rwengo was booked for felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and altering the identification mark of a firearm. Charan was booked for felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, altering the identification mark of a firearm, and bringing drugs into a prison after he was found to have concealed marijuana on his person at the time of his booking. The juvenile was released to family at the scene.
