VICTORVILLE – An intoxicated hit-and-run driver collided with the trailer portion of a semi-tractor trailer as she attempted to flee the scene of a collision.
On Monday, August 13, 2018, at around 12:30 a.m., while driving her Honda Accord Alana Marie (Velasquez) Joerger, 36, of Hesperia, backed into a vehicle in a parking lot on Mariposa Road. “When the owner exited the vehicle to assess the damage, Joerger hit him with her vehicle causing injuries to his face,” said Victorville Sheriff’s Department Spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez. The incident was reported and the male victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
As Joerger fled the scene of the crash, traveling south on Mariposa Road at the Bear Valley Road intersection she ran a red light and collided into the trailer of a semi. The collision with the semi was reported at around 12:37 a.m. The crash caused the front of the Honda to become lodged under the trailer. Joerger was trapped inside the mangled vehicle, making it necessary for San Bernardino County Fire to extricate her. Joerger sustained major injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured as a result of the crash.
Joerger remains hospitalized but is expected to face charges for driving under the influence and hit and run upon her release.
