VICTORVILLE, Ca. – A 39-year-old transient was arrested after causing chaos near the Victorville Costco store on Monday night.
At around 8:15 p.m., Saul Mejia, was allegedly loitering at the Costco store on Valley Center Drive in the City of Victorville. He was asked to leave by the store security officer. Mejia compiled but as he left, he attempted to open vehicle doors in the parking lot. The security guard approached him and told him to leave the property. “Mejia then removed a folding knife and a hypodermic needle from his clothing and attempted to assault the guard,” said Victorville Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez. “The guard pepper sprayed Mejia and he moved on to the gas station area at Costco.”
Mejia got to the Costco gas station where fuel was being delivered by a fuel truck. Mejia took a lighter and attempted to set the truck on fire. He then ran across to a car dealership where he pulled on handles, attempting to get into the vehicles there. Mejia threw rocks at the business window and at cars on the lot. “Deputies arrived and found Mejia to still be acting erratically and refusing to follow commands,,”said Mara Rodriguez. “Mejia was taken into custody after deputies used non-lethal force to detain him.”
Mejia was arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Arson. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
