Victorville Woman Killed in Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Collision

HESPERIA – A Victorville woman lost her life after she was struck by a vehicle on Oakwood Avenue just south of Sycamore Street Saturday night. At around 11:07 p.m. Victorville resident, Victoria Orrantia, 63, and a male pedestrian were walking on Oakwood Avenue when the collision occurred.

Medics arrived on scene shortly after to locate the unconscious woman on the roadway and began CPR. Also with the woman was a man who sustained minor injuries. Orrantia was transported to Desert Valley Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at around 11:42 p.m. The driver of the silver 2002 Saturn SW-series sedan was uninjured and remained at the scene.

Through investigation, deputies learned that the male and the female were walking south on the southbound side of Oakwood Avenue ; the male in the dirt shoulder and the female pushing a shopping cart in the roadway. The female and the shopping cart were both struck, and authorities believe that the cart then struck the male knocking him onto the ground. The male suffered a laceration to his head and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Apple Valley.

The road was closed on Oakwood Avenue between Deodar and Sycamore Street so that the  San Bernardino County Major Investigation Team (MAIT) could conduct an investigation. The road was reopened at around 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
