VICTORVILLE – The man who is believed to be the mastermind in the murder of National Guard soldier, 31-year-old Daniel Yarbrough was convicted of both murder and attempted murder on Wednesday. The jury reached their verdict after six days of testimony and around 3 hours of deliberations.
The motive of the murder was financial gain based on testimony explaining how 29-year-old Wesley Swank
planned and committed the murder to collect on Yarbrough’s life insurance. According to witness testimony, Swank created fake email accounts and forged signatures to make himself the beneficiary of Yarbrough’s policy.
Wesley Swank, Logan Swank (Wesley’s younger brother) and their brother-in-law, Thomas Bradshaw, shot as drove past Yarbrough’s Victorville home and while he sat in his vehicle on September 17, 2014. Yarbrough was not injured during this shooting. Just weeks later, Yarbrough was invited to Bradshaw’s home on the 16200 block of Muni Road in Apple Valley. As Yarbrough sat in his vehicle in front of the apartment he was shot and killed.
Logan Swank was found guilty of murder and was sentenced on February 19, 2016, to life in prison without
the possibility of parole. Thomas Bradshaw was sentenced to 1094 days in jail for permitting another to shoot from a vehicle and was released with 547 days of time served on Thursday, July 28, 2016. Wesley Swank, like his brother Logan, now faces life without the possibility of parole when sentenced on the morning of September 30, 2016.
