CAJON PASS – At around 11:13 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a multi-vehicle traffic collision on the southbound 15 freeway between Oak Hill and SR-138.
The collision is responsible for over a dozen injuries, with multiple occupants declining medical transport. The area is reportedly foggy but it is unclear if the weather was a factor in the collision.
Emergency personnel responded with a 3rd alarm mass casualty incident response with a total of 10 engines, 1 truck, 1 heavy rescue, 14 ambulances and 5 chief officers responding to the collision. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The exact number of vehicles is unclear, but per CHP officials said that there were somewhere between 20-30 involved vehicles.
The multi-vehicle traffic collision occurred approximately one hour following a car fire on the 15 freeway south near Ranchero Road that led to a SIG alert at 10:39 a.m. As of 11:37 a.m. the lanes of traffic leading to the SIG alert for the car fire was cleared.
Southbound I-15 traffic is backed up from CA-395 to SR-138, due to a closure from Ranchero Road to SR-138.
