HESPERIA, Ca. – An 81-year-old Hesperia man died on Friday after falling into the California Aqueduct, coroners officials said.
On April 9, 2021, just after 12:00 p.m., a witness saw Robert Joseph Caroline, 81, of Hesperia, fell into the aqueduct near Ranchero Road and Eleventh Street. The witness reported that Caroline quickly sunk into the water after entering. He said that he attempted to help him, but was unable to.
Emergency responders arrived and were able to recover Caroline, who was pronounced deceased at around 1:05 p.m.
Authorities said that Caroline, who had Alzheimer’s disease was reported missing by his wife, Ethel Caroline, shortly before the incident. She said that he went missing from their home in the 15500 block of Via Cartagena Street, around ½ mile away from the Aqueduct.
