ADELANTO – City of Adelanto officials are warning residents against dealing with private companies offering water quality tests.
Several Adelanto residents recently reported that they were confused about a notice and/or solicitors at their home. Many of these residents were offered a free water quality test and were uncertain if this test was being done by the city or by a private company. The City of Adelanto reminds residents that they will not visit homes asking the resident to test their water.
“These are typically part of a sales promotion, interested only in selling you a water softener or treatment device, whether you need it or not,” said Ray Cordero, Water Operations Superintendent. “Every year the City of Adelanto is required to prepare and make public a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) which serves as a report card on the quality of water in Adelanto,” Cordero added. A CCR is completed for the previous year by July 1st of the following year. The most recent CCR is available on the city’s website.
The third-party laboratory test shows clearly that the water meets or exceeds the EPA and State Standards. Although regular testing is important in order to determine the quality of water, Cordero said that in-home testing does not provide the information needed to determine what kind of system would best suit the customer’s needs. The in-home tests, test for things that are not harmful, such as acidity/alkalinity, water hardness, iron, manganese, and color. Residents are urged to avoid dealing with salespersons in-home test results, that may be presented to you as polluted, contaminated, or bad for the health of your family.
To learn about the quality of your water, compare the quality of Adelanto’s water (CCR) to standards available from your state government and the EPA.
