APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – An Apple Valley man was shot by deputies at the conclusion of a pursuit on Wednesday night.
At around 7:50 p.m. Apple Valley Deputies went to the home of 37-year-old Christopher Bowers to question him about a January 19, 2019, domestic violence incident. As deputies approached the home they saw Bowers driving towards his home. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Bowers failed to yield leading to a pursuit. The pursuit went through Apple Valley, on the southbound 15 freeway and on the 10 freeway eastbound. Bowers exited on Citrus Avenue.
Bowers had a gun in the vehicle and pointed it at deputies. Bowers slowed his vehicle as he exited the freeway, a Pursuit Intervention Technique(PIT) maneuver was used to safely end the pursuit. His vehicle struck the overpass wall and a 35-year-old female passenger exited the vehicle and went to the deputies. The female was determined to be the victim involved in the domestic violence incident. “ Bowers then drove forward and crashed into two patrol cars,” San Bernardino Sheriff’s officials said. “Then he reversed the vehicle toward deputies, crashed into a patrol car as a deputy was exiting the vehicle and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”
Sheriff’s Specialized Investigators responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The woman was not injured as a result of the pursuit. During the investigation, a handgun was located near Bowers vehicle. Authorities said that Bowers is a career criminal on active parole for a narcotics violation.
Bowers was injured as a result of the shooting and was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. He is expected to survive his injuries.
