APPLE VALLEY – A woman and five children witnessed a 55-year-old man shoot his 16-year-old son in the chest, then turn the gun on himself.
On Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at around 4:05 p.m. deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded a shots fired report in the 17000 block of Quantico Road in the Town of Apple Valley. Deputies arrived shortly after the report to find that the shooting was a result of an escalated domestic disturbance between the father and son. They learned that the father fired his 9mm handgun one time, striking the teen in his chest. He then turned the gun on himself.
The man died as a result of his injuries and the boy was transported by ground ambulance to St, Mary’s Medical Center in preparation to be airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center in serious condition. None of the other occupants in the home were injured as a result of the shooting. The shooting remains under investigation.
