Apple Valley Man Wanted for Target Store Shooting

APPLE VALLEY – A man was injured after a verbal altercation led to a shooting on Monday evening. At around 5:22 p.m. deputies from the Apple Valley Station were dispatched to the Target store located at 20288 State Highway 18 in the Town of Apple Valley.

When deputies arrived they found that one man had sustained a gunshot wound from a low caliber firearm to the back of his head. Upon further investigation including witness statements, they learned that the suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Apple Valley resident Dearld Edward Wicker and the victim, along with others were involved in an argument at the Target Store parking lot.


Witnesses stated that a 1980’s to 1990’s black Ford Bronco with yellow rotating lights fled the scene and remains at large. The victim, who was shot in the back of the head suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ground to St. Mary’s Hospital to be airlifted to a trauma center for the treatment of his injuries.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating additional witnesses and/or information regarding the whereabouts of Dearld Wicker.
