APPLE VALLEY – The Town of Apple Valley is giving residents the opportunity to dispose of their unwanted tires free of charge next month.
Apple Valley residents who have tire to dispose of should mark their calendars and show up at Lion’s Park on Saturday, April 15th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lion’s Park is on South Outer Highway 18, between Flathead and Dale Evans Parkway. No rims will be accepted and no commercial dealers will be allowed.
All passenger car and light truck tires are accepted with proof of Apple Valley address. Town officials said that the dumping of tires creates health and environmental hazards. Discarded tires can present a fire hazard releasing noxious smoke contaminating the surface and groundwater. Whole tires can hold water leading to a breeding ground for mosquitos.
The cost of the event is covered by Cal-Recycle’s Local Government Waste Tire Amnesty Program and is sponsored by the Town of Apple Valley and Burrtec Waste. For more information, please visit www.AVCode.org or call Apple Valley Code Enforcement at (760) 240-7560.
