RIVERSIDE – Authorities have obtained footage of the assault that led to the death of a father of two who was only attempting to aid a beating victim. On Saturday, August 12, 2017, at around 2:08 p.m. multiple people were involved in a physical altercation at Mission Inn Avenue at Main Street in the Downtown area of Riverside. According to witnesses, Adam Valles, 28, was outside of the Hideaway Cafe with his wife, his sisters, and some friends waiting for an Uber.
They noticed the brawl and also noticed that a male was being beaten brutally by four other men. Valles went over to attempt to peacefully resolve the situation, but bent over to check on the male victim who was on the ground. His wife, Johana Valles said that one of the men tackled him to the ground hitting his head on the pavement. He got up and someone else punched him and he fell and hit his head on the pavement again and did not get up. He was rushed to a local trauma center with extensive head injuries and later died.
“Based on surveillance and a cellphone video obtained by detectives, there may be additional victims who fled prior to officers and paramedics arriving,” Riverside Police officials said. Additional tips and photos have flooded into police in the days following the fight. Clearer images of two of the suspects are being shared in hopes that someone will recognize them. One suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early 20’s. He is medium height and thin build with dark hair. He was last seen wearing black or an otherwise dark shirt and gray skinny jeans and black shoes with white laces. The second suspect is Black or Hispanic, in his mid-20’s medium height and build. He has dark hair and was last seen wearing a light blue button up shirt, tan pants, and black shoes.
The family of Valles, including his wife and two young children, are now left to cope with his death and moving on without the head of their household. A Go Fund Me Account has been set up to help with funeral expenses and any immediate expenses the family may incur as a result of his death.
If you recognize or know the identity of these two suspects, or if you have information regarding this investigation, please contact Detective Brett Stennett at (951) 353-7213 or bstennett@riverside.ca.gov. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 1-800-78-CRIME or email RPDTips@riversideca.gov.
