HIGHLAND – A three-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle, dragged several feet, and then left at the scene as the driver fled. On Saturday, December 3, 2016, at around 5:20 p.m. deputies from the Highland Station responded to a hit and run vehicle versus pedestrian collision at a parking lot near Baseline Street and Del Rosa Avenue in the City of Highland.
When deputies arrived they located the small boy suffering from major road rash in the strip mall parking lot. Through investigation, it was determined that the boy was struck while crossing the parking lot. After being hit, authorities said that the boy’s body became lodged under the vehicle’s wheel and was dragged. The driver backed his vehicle off of the boy and drove away. The boy was rushed to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The driver remains at large and is described as a Hispanic man who was approximately 40-50 years old with a beard or goatee. The suspect was driving a maroon or burgundy late 1990’s Ford F150, with boarded side-walls and was carrying landscaping equipment.
