Authorities Working to Remove Bear From Residential Apple Valley Neighborhood

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – Residents in the Town of Apple Valley were urged to keep their pets and children inside of their homes on Monday morning after the sighting of a bear.

The bear wandered from his intended home into town in the morning. The bear was in the area of Ramona Avenue, Navajo, Elkalo, and Nanticoke roads, officials said. Animal Control and Apple Valley Police responded to the area. Fish and Game was called to collect the wandering bear.

At around 10:30 a.m., Fish and Game arrived at the scene. Just before 11:00 a.m., Fish and Game requested additional staff so that they could tranquilize the bear to remove it from the tree. At around 1:00 p.m. the bear was tranquilized and removed from the tree. The bear is reportedly doing well and was taken to a licensed rehabilitation facility.
