BARSTOW – An 18-year-old Barstow High School student was arrested after threatening to “shoot up” the high school on February 14, 2018.
On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, the school principal notified the Barstow Police Department that a student might have made a comment about shooting up the school on February 14, 2018. The word spread around campus that an anonymous Snapchat post warned students to remain home from school.
Students and parents were interviewed, eventually leading to the discovery that the threats were not credible. On February 14, 2018, at around 6:45 a.m. the school was cleared in preparation of students arriving at the school shortly after. At around 9:34 a.m. an additional threat was made by a high school student through Twitter. This threat helped to lead authorities to Isaiah Velasquez-Traylor, an independent study student at Barstow Unified School District. Detectives made contact with Velasquez-Traylor in the 1700 block of Young Street. A search was conducted of his home and vehicle, and no firearm was located and there was no plan to carry out any. attack Although no firearm was located, a replica BB gun was located.
Detective Griego placed Velasquez-Traylor under arrest and booked him at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for the listed charges.
