BARSTOW – A Barstow man has been arrested for an armed robbery and an Apple Valley man, who was involved remains at large.
On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, a female victim went to Walmart to cash a check and placed the cash in her wallet. The woman then went to a shopping center in the 1200 block of East Main Street. She sat in the back seat of the vehicle in the shopping center parking lot when a male suspect opened her door, produced a handgun, and demanded her wallet. The woman, in fear for her safety, complied with the demands and handed the suspect her wallet. The suspect fled from the area on foot.
The woman called 911 to report the armed robbery. Shortly after Barstow Police officers and detectives responded to the scene. They searched for the suspect and obtained video surveillance of the robbery from a business nearby. Detectives positively identified Nathaniel Mansfield Jr., 33, of Apple Valley and Chris Harris Jr., 24, of Barstow,. as the suspects involved in the robbery. Through investigation, it was learned that Mansfield and Harris were at the Walmart as the victim cashed her check and put the money in her wallet. They followed her to the shopping center where Mansfield approached her with the handgun and robbed her. He then fled the shopping center to Harris, who waited in a vehicle.
Officers did an area search and were able to locate the unoccupied getaway vehicle, which belonged to Harris in the 700 block of Dolph Court. The vehicle was seized and a search warrant was obtained. The vehicle was processed for evidence by a Barstow Police Evidence Technician and was subsequently stored at a local tow yard. On Monday, September 24, 2018, at around 1:45 p.m. detectives learned that Harris was at the tow yard attempting to get the property out of his vehicle. Officers quickly arrived at the tow yard and arrested Harris without incident. He was booked into jail for Robbery and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for Driving with a Suspended License.
Mansfield and the firearm used in the robbery have not yet been located. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Mansfield should call the police. He is considered armed and dangerous.
